The Human Spine: A Paradox of Fragility and Strength

The Human Spine: A Paradox of Fragility and Strength

The human spine is built from 33 interlocking vertebrae. It can withstand immense forces, supporting our entire body weight while allowing us to bend, twist, and move through the world. Yet within this fortress of bone (vertebrae column) runs the spinal cord, a delicate, tube-like structure of neural tissue. Extending from the brainstem down the back, it transmits every signal between the brain and the rest of the body.

We are creatures capable of incredible resilience, while remaining perpetually aware that a single moment of trauma, a wrong landing, or the slow accumulation of time can render us permanently disabled. The spine is a gentle reminder of the humility of our mortality we carry.
